My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together.Desmond Tutu

Welcome to Church on the Block.

My wife, Melissa, and our four children reside on the West Side in the Austin neighborhood, and we’re celebrating life as local residents. We honor all who have gone ahead of us: Urban elders. Pastors. Leaders. We’re grateful for God’s movement here long before we showed up. The Spirit of God has been here on the move for decades. We’re committed to listen to and learn from the people of Austin. And if we haven’t met, I’d enjoy meeting you in person one day soon.

As a church, we’re a people in process, imperfect, in need of God’s healing, open, willing, and forgiving. We are a people of hope with a fire in the soul, devoted to following Jesus of Nazareth. We’re seeking to become peacemakers in a world of violence. We’re learning to see church as rest for the weary, a movement of relationships, and as a community of neighbors locking arms together. We’re called to bear witness to the visible reality of the Christ as a people learning how to respond to change, how to move through suffering, how to receive joy, and how to mature through the love of neighbor.

For those on the underside of society, you are loved and valued. We invite you to choose life over fear or disillusionment. The time is now.

Come as you are. There’s room at the table.

In Christ’s Peace,

Nate & Melissa
